Mission
To enable and engage in path-finding interdisciplinary research at the intersection of engineering, science, biology, and the humanities to advance the frontiers of knowledge, promote economic development and enhance the quality of life in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the U.S., and the world at large, and enhance the educational experience of both undergraduate and graduate students.
Goals
- Identify emerging trends in engineering, physical and life science, and social sciences.
- Select strategic areas of interdisciplinary research for investment and growth.
- Invest in equipment, laboratory space and faculty in the selected research areas.
- Partner with academic units to start initiatives to increase the number of high quality Ph.D. graduates.
- Initiate program(s) to honor faculty.
- Support research and educational programs to reach out to developing communities locally and globally.
- Increase the capacity and reputation of VT in transformative, sustainable technologies.
