Nano-Bio Interface
Thrust Leader: Nammalwar Sriranganathan
Of the different intersections of technologies presented in the ICTAS Venn diagram, perhaps the nano molecular biology overlap presents the greatest prospects and challenges. The ICTAS research in this thrust area is
focused on uncovering the structure and function of biosystems at the nanoscale for applications in several areas including targeted delivery of drugs, body part replacement and regenerative medicine, nanoscale surgery and
improving human performance.
- Targeted Delivery of Nanomedicine: using specific nanocrystals for immune-targeting, performing micro-injection of nanoparticles and using real-time spectroscopy in biological systems,
and engineering nanosctructs for targeted regulation of intracellular free radical concentration.
- Cellular Engineering Microsystems (CEMS): developing fundamentally innovative techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases by exploiting phenomena that dominate at the micro- and nano-scale.
- Non-invasive Sensing and Diagnosis: developing non-invasive sensors for early diagnosis and treatment of disease.
- Center for Inflammation: leveraging our unique research expertise in immunity and bioluminescence.
- Center for Biomedical Imaging has active programs in biomedical imaging, biomechanics, tissue engineering, and other important areas.
