Potential candidates must apply for graduate school acceptance through the Virginia Tech Graduate School standard application process. Faculty advisors are encouraged to recommend exceptional interested applicants.

Review of applications begins in January of each year. Successful applicants are notified of selection after negotiation with the academic department. Notification to recipients is accomplished on an on-going basis, until all available slots are filled. The full cohort of scholars is formally announced after all acceptances are received.Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Candidates of the highest academic caliber are eligible for this honor. The program is targeted to entering or new Ph.D. candidates. Nominators are encouraged to submit applications for the best of the best in terms of academic and other credentials, in addition to acknowledged creativity and dedication to the chosen field of interest.
